These recent sculptures further explore the concept of housing and the built world’s relationship to the environment. Scroll down for details.

    Totara  Take 3. (SOLD)

This piece has sold. I have a reasonable length of Totara left and could design something on commission if someone wants something with a similar presence.

Stained glass, copper, lead-based solder, reclaimed Totara post, acrylic paint

300 x 300 square at base (when stacked)

    Height is 600mm

This mixed-media sculpture  was inspired by a piece of Totara that was removed from my house during renovations. Well over a century ago it was felled by an axe to be stood again as structural support for a home for over 120 years. Demolition, reclamation and reshaping has  it  remaining strong and heavy, its story still visible. In this, its 3rd shape, it represents the built world  while being mimicked by a metal and glass house of perfectly imperfect florals ( see my Perfectly imperfect Floral series the in the Wall-hung Floral  Gallery).

Light draws upon this Totara house and it’s surroundings,  ever changing  lines, shapes, colours and images  in remembrance of the forest and  reverence for nature and sustainability.

The work is in 2 pieces and can be arranged in many ways. See below and above for more images.

This piece was so much fun to make! Random cuts in the epoxy-repaired timber and a bit more planning with the glass pieces.
