Everything here is handmade and a one-off.
Most of my works are sculptural. They often start with reclaimed timber and the glass brings the magic!
Most of my works contain some reclaimed materials. The glass will be a mixture of new and recovered glass. The normal characteristics of stained glass include indents, bubbles, roller marks and colour and texture variations. These add to the beauty and make the refracted images created even more intriguing.
I tend to do unique and different things with my materials. I have spent a lot of time and energy ensuring the final product will stand the test of time. Please note that glass is fragile (can break), the solder lines contain lead (keep away from very young children and wash your hands after handling). The glass can be wiped clean and a car polish like carnuba wax can be used to polish it up if necessary. The timber has been rubbed with a mix of bees wax and oil. Over time it could benefit from another similar rub, especially if it gets a lot of sun.

Stained glass, copper foil, lead-based solder, reclaimed Totara and acrylic paint
See images below of how this 2 piece sculpture can be arranged to capture light and cast refractions on itself and the surroundings. Note - the photos were taken before the Totara piece was finished. Sometimes you just have to take pics when the sun says so 🤣.
The shape is based on the models I made when I was designing my Studio. Moving the pieces around allows you to create versions of it, extend it or compress it. I am always thinking about how we design buildings to suit the use required and yet not take over or impact the environment in a negative way.
Like in previous pieces, the Totara base symbolises the importance of nature, how we must learn from nature and how its wonders can be utilised but in a thoughtful and forward looking manner. This tree was felled well over a 100 years ago. In 1896 that wood was erected as a post to hold up part of my house. As part of the post was affected by rot, I was recently able to reclaim the majority of it to use in many artworks. It’s beauty and strength in all it’s forms inspires me ( Giant of the forest to structural support to art).
I have made some mini versions of this piece - see the images below ( no timber component) to purchase go to my Felt Shop.
Note - I can produce limited edition fine art prints of images of this work - contact me for more information.

This mixed media sculpture was inspired by wall-hung Scrap Houses and the need to consider the environmental impact of our building practices.
Light draws on this Poplar house and its surroundings, ever changing lines, shapes, colours and images. The refractions, like the glass shards, remind us that doing the right thing might not always be the easiest method but the rewards are infinite and beautiful.

$295NZ (Green), $280 multi coloured
Stained glass including antique reclaimed glass, copper foil, lead-based solder, Totara ( from post of old villa)
I have made several pieces on the subject of managed retreat. How we build, where we build, what surfaces do we have around our buildings to mitigate environmental impact as well as respond to the changing environmental conditions.
This piece can be wall hung ( 1 keyhole) or sit flat on a surface. The glass buildings slot into the surface of the timber and can be removed for safe shipping.
$325 NZ
Stained glass including antique reclaimed glass, copper foil, lead-based solder, Matai stained black
This stunning green textured glass is very old and was purchased from a demolition business. It represents the importance to retain some of the beauty and history of the old buildings even when we need to strengthen and modernise the interior to suit today’s purposes.

Stained glass, copper foil, lead-based solder, reclaimed oak barrel stave timber

190 x 145 x 70 mm
$145 NZ
Stained glass, copper foil, lead-based solder, epoxy resin, reclaimed timber
Like with many of my works I am thinking about our imprint on the environment. This is a cute little house in textured clear and green glass. It might appear to be built “green” but perhaps it is isn’t or maybe it is in the wrong location. There is green “water” seeping from it.
Don’t let my ideas get in the way of you enjoying this very cute little sculpture.
200 x 180 x 90mm
$155 NZ
Stained glass, copper foil, lead-based solder, epoxy resin, reclaimed totara
I built an interesting shape from a scrap of Totara and then added a contemporary glass wing to house shards of glass. It represents a modern build from reclaimed and old objects and, while it appears to be putting it’s ugly on show, the story told by the old timber and the beauty of the glass is quite special.
The images show the components. The piece is as per the bottom row and does not come apart.

Stained glass, copper foil, lead-based solder, reclaimed totara
Sometimes I’m not sure where my ideas come from. This sculpture is in 2 parts. The orange glass just seems to bring a mid-century vibe and reminds me of bold carpet choices.
