Happy browsing!
Everything here is handmade and a one-off.
Most of my works contain some reclaimed materials. The glass will be a mixture of new and recovered glass. The normal characteristics of stained glass include indents, bubbles, roller marks and colour and texture variations. These add to the beauty and make the refracted images created even more intriguing.
I tend to do unique and different things with my materials. I have spent a lot of time and energy ensuring the final product will stand the test of time. Please note that glass is fragile (can break), the solder lines contain lead (keep away from very young children and wash your hands after handling). The glass can be wiped clean and a car polish like carnuba wax can be used to polish it, and the solder lines, up if necessary. Any timber has been rubbed with a mix of bees wax and oil. Over time it could benefit from another similar rub, especially if it gets a lot of sun.

Copper tube & restrip
Stained glass
Copper foil
Lead-based solder
360 x 45mm
I originally made a series of 5 for Parker Gallery Nelson. Sometimes a series just speaks to me and I found myself making this 6th work recently. The way I engineer the work to sit off the wall is rather complex and involves a lot of reinforcement but the result is this floating arrangement of perfectly imperfect “flowers”, supported by green and contrasting with the black patina on the solder. It is a 3D wall sculpture but light makes it 4D as the refracted images and shadows move and change.
Hangs on 1 fixing into keyhole slot behind the opaque yellow flower with bright blue centre.
Copper wire
Stained glass
Copper foil
Lead-based solder
720 x 400 x 200mm
The idea for this series came to me in one of those Glimmer Moments. I had been thinking about a seed–pod form, maybe seed pods, maybe petals. It can hang either way - head up or down.
Unlike the 1st 2 in this series, this piece has a copper patina which looks fabulous with the blue glass. The flex in the copper wire allows for the form to be flattened or bent somewhat. Changes should be limited so as not to cause the wire to break.
See further images below.
This is the 3rd work in my Glimmer series (so far just 3 made). I might produce some more similar works. They really produce magnificent refractions!

Ply discs (for hanging and depth)
Stained glass
Copper foil
Lead-based solder
Individual pieces range from 135 - 230mm, depth varies to allow for overlapping
This set consists of 5 floral shapes based on a theme of gold. The green was added - because I love it and everything is better with green. They are wall hung, each on a keyhole slot. They can be arranged however you like.
Note - I can produce limited edition fine art prints of images of this work - contact me for more information.

Reclaimed American Oak
Stained glass
Copper foil
Lead-based solder
270 x 430 x 45 mm
This piece can stand alone ( fixing down required and allowed for), hang on a wall or hang in a window.
Inspired by the mountainous landscape of New Zealand, this abstract piece contains reference to a small red hikers‘ hut. In NZ we call them Trampers’ Huts or Doc Huts. Tramping is akin to hiking or trekking and often involves long distances and nights spent in small huts that are a refuge from the extremes, a place to rest and recover. They range from the very small and basic to quite large buildings with multiple bunks. There are 2 other similar pieces in this series. Orange Hut (SOLD) and Hiker’s Hut at Night.

These pieces represent the need to consider the environmental impact of our building practices and the importance of recycling / repurposing materials where possible. I keep all my glass scraps and try and use them where I can. This saves on glass but definitely doesn’t save on time. Each piece needed to have the edges ground and be foiled just like the intentional shapes in my other designs. The practice of using recycled goods is not always the easiest way forward but the results are not just good for the environment, they can produce stunning results just like the refractions produced by light on these pieces.
Each piece sits 40mm off the wall allowing the production of shadows and refractions that change with the movement of light.

Wooden Frame ( The Framing Rooms @ Quiet Dog Gallery)
Stained glass
Copper foil
Lead- based solder
155 x 170 x 35 mm
This mini framed panel can stand alone or hang on a wall. It could also be hung in a window.
This is essentially an abstract artwork, but unlike a painting the image will change with the moving light. Natural light will produce the most striking and crisp refractions on the wall behind or surface it sits on.
